Nordisk samarbejde

posted in: Nyheder | 2

Slow Food is growing within the whole Nordic region. Members organise diverse activites and run various projects aimed at bringing Terra Madre closer to their communities, at protecting their local biodiversity and educating people to a good, clean and fair food system.

In 2010, the first convivia on the Faroe Islands and in Greenland were created, and in Denmark the first campus convivium was created at the Aalborg University. In June 2011, Indigenous Terra Madre will be organised in Sweden and Terra Madre Norway will take place in October. In Finland the first meeting of all convivia was organised last March. And in Iceland Slow Food starts being perceived at national level as a strong voice against GMOs.

All these initiatives are growing and making the Slow Food network bigger and bigger. For a better coordination of this network in the Nordic region, a group of convivium leaders and members started working together a year ago, in order to support each other and exchange expertise.

This working group has met three times since then, and has developed into a coordination committee. The committee has formulated a proposal of creating an interregional organisation, which could provide the Nordic convivia with a basis for exchange and mutual support on projects, fundings, expertise and improve member rates in the entire region. A Slow Food Nordic network would furthermore help supporting the international projects Slow Food is developing, such as the Terra Madre network and 1000 Gardens in Africa.

The organisation would be managed by a voluntary executive Board elected by members, and run through an operational office which shall be based according to where financial resources will be raised . The above mentioned organisation would not be a rigid structure but will provide a platform for exchange and support for the Nordic convivia willing to participate in this interregional network. The participation to this interregional organisation would be open and free to all convivia in the Nordic area.

You can find attached the proposal from the coordination committee with all details regarding the organisation and all persons involved. We kindly ask you to provide the members of your convivium with this information and let us know whether or not you are interested in taking part. Your feedback will help up to collect all convivia’s voices and have a global perspective on all members involved.

Please provide us with your suggestions and ideas within May 29.

At disposal for further requests you may have.

Best regards the coordination committee
